MANUAL · 02 · BEATS
Beats and rhythm
Give each beat its own strength, and add bass notes or finer subdivisions.
Accents and mutes
Press a cell in the beat meter to open the settings for that beat. Choose accent, normal or mute, and the height of the cell changes.
- Accent: filled to the top, plays a strong click
- Normal: filled about halfway, plays a regular click
- Mute: outline only, that beat is silent
When you add beats, the new ones are normal.
Bass notes
Turn on the bass note in a beat's settings to layer a low tone under the click. Pick one of 12 keys from E to D#, and a length of short, mid or long. Put different keys on different beats to make a simple bass line.
Beat settings
With the settings open, press another cell to switch to that beat. Press Esc or click outside to close.
Patterns
Pattern sets the guide notes played inside each beat.
| Pattern | What you hear |
|---|---|
| Off | No guide notes |
| 8th | Each beat split in 2 (eighth notes) |
| Triplet | Each beat split in 3 (triplets) |
| 16th | Each beat split in 4 (sixteenth notes) |
| 16th(s) | Swung sixteenth notes |
| Poly | A 3 against 2 polyrhythm |
| Custom | Build your own (custom beat) |
Custom beats
Choose Custom in Pattern and the beat meter turns into a custom beat preview. Press it to open the editor, where each beat is split into 4 steps you can fill in.
Custom beat settings
- CLICK rows: accent, normal and guide
- BASS rows: 12 rows, one per key. Drag across to join steps into one long note
- Start dragging from a lit step to clear several at once
- Turn on shuffle to swing the 2nd and 4th sixteenth notes
You can also switch with Switch to Custom Beat and Switch to Simple Beat in the menu.
When the beat display is set to the pendulum, custom beats are shown with the pendulum too (see the Display chapter).
